Jean Blondel PhD Prize

In October 2003 the ECPR created its annual PhD prize for the best thesis in Politics (broadly conceived to include International Relations, Political Theory and Public Administration) awarded at a full ECPR member institution. In 2005 the Prize was named after ECPR founding father, Jean Blondel.

The PhD Prize links in with two other ECPR activities:

  • the biennial Graduate Conference, which alternates with the General Conference, the first of which was held at the University of Essex in September 2006;
  • the ECPR Monographs series. Part of the remit of this series is the publication of research monographs by new entrants to the profession that are based on outstanding doctoral dissertations.

The PhD Prize is judged by a committee drawn from the editorial board of ECPR Press and chaired by ECPR Press' co-editor, Dr Dario Castiglione, Department of Politics, University of Exeter.

The 2010 shortlist for the Jean Blondel Prize for the best Political Science thesis has been announced
This year ECPR Press received a record number of entrants that were of an exceptionally high quality and narrowing the short-list down to just five was not an easy task.

The five short-listed nominations are:
Amandine Bled Orsini, Universite de Bordeaux (Sciences Po Bordeaux)
Francesco Giumelli, Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane
Laura Valentini, University College London
Martino Maggetti, Université de Lausanne
Paul Gill, University College Dublin

A final decision on the winner one the winner will be made by the end of July and announced as soon as possible after that
