Abstract
This panel will focus on the (de-facto) provision of collective goods through non-state actors in areas of limited statehood. We will have papers that discuss empirical results on how new governance arrangements (1) evolve and how (2) effective and (3) legitimate they are in delivering governance services, (4) what factors are decisive for their effectiveness, and (5) how these arrangements develop over time, how robust they are or how they adapt to changing conditions. Papers will focus on non-state actors’ contributions to development and economic governance, environmental governance, and potentially health governance in areas of limited statehood.
