Chair-Designate for 2012-15 Elected and Term of Academic Director Extended by a Year.
In keeping with its procedural convention, established in 2003 to facilitate succession planning and business continuity, the ECPR Executive Committee (EC) has elected by a unanimous decision Prof. Simona Piattoni of the University of Trento as Chair-designate for 2012-2015.
Simona was chosen from amongst those EC members who still have three years to serve. Her name will be forwarded to the new EC elected at Antwerp with a recommendation that she be elected Chair for 2012-15 at the new EC's first meeting on 15 April 2012.
The EC has also decided to extend the term of office of the current Academic Director by one year (to 30 April 2013) for two reasons. First, it ensures that the ending of the terms of office of Chair and Academic Director are staggered, so enhancing business continuity and succession planning. Second, since the EC is proposing (to Council) to abolish the post of Academic Director with effect from 1 May 2013, it makes little sense to go through the process of appointing a new Academic Director for what might be a single year.
